This book is tricky to find (hence the fact that even the Amazon page lacks a cover image) but it is really exceptional. As it says in the title it goes into detail on the clothing options for common people in the late Elzabethan and early Stuart era rather than focusing, as many books do, on the wealthy who have an eye on the court fashions. It includes both photos of re-enactors wearing the clothes and woodcuts from the period to show where they get the evidence for their patterns.
It also shouldn’t be underestimated how handy it is to have a costume book that can realistically fit into a handbag or pocket, I’m not saying it’s better but it is nice to occasionally have a book you don’t have to hold with both hands.
Despite being smaller they really fit the info into the pages without cramming it in until it is easy to miss things. I really recommend this book is what I am saying.
